The Orion complex (sometimes called the Orion molecular cloud complex) is a huge star-forming area in the constellation of Orion.. It is a large group of bright nebulae, dark clouds, and young star clusters. The cloud is between 1,500 and 1,600 light-years away and is hundreds of light-years across. Several parts of the nebula can be seen through binoculars and small telescopes.

A deep exposure shows everything from dark nebula to star clusters, all embedded in an extended patch of gaseous wisps in the greater Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. The brightest three stars, appearing diagonally on the left of the featured image are indeed the famous three stars that make up the belt of Orion. Orion molecular cloud ( OMC-1 ) A dense cloud of neutral molecular hydrogen lying slightly behind, but in contact with, the Orion nebula . It is part of a system of molecular clouds in the Orion constellation, and is an example of a photodissociation region seen face-on. 2016-03-13 2020-11-07 2013-11-13 2013-01-24 The cloud is packed full of gas – it contains so much material, in fact, that it would be capable of producing tens of thousands of Suns. Along with its sibling, Orion B , the cloud makes up the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex , a vast star-forming region within the constella-tion of Orion, which is most prominent in the night sky during northern hemisphere winter and southern hemisphere summer.

Spiral City Fractal Mandala Towers of Earth Sun Orion Spiral Arm of Stars Pleiades Milky Way Home Galaxy This giant cloud, or complex of clouds, of interstellar matter and young stars contains, besides M42 and M43 and the nebulosity associated with them (NGC 1973-5-7), a number of famous objects: Barnard's Loop, the Horsehead Nebula region(also containing NGC 2024 = Orion B), and the reflection nebulae around M78. In the center of the image, partially obscured by a dark, Jedi-like cloak of dust, a newborn star shoots twin jets out into space as a sort of birth announcement to the universe. This is inside a turbulent birthing ground for new stars known as the Orion B molecular cloud complex, located 1,350 light-years away.

In the The Orion B Molecular Cloud Complex is shown in the widefield image above. It is rich in imaging targets. The most notable are the Horsehead Nebula (B33) in the center of the image and the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) to its left. The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula that blocks light from the bright Emission Nebula (IC 434) in the background. Dark nebulae are composed of interstellar dust and 2021-01-11 · This cloud of gas is part of the great Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, and represents a region where new stars haven't formed yet, but may form over the next few million years.
