Decorrelation stretch is used to enhance color differences in images with high interchannel correlation. Therefore it allows us to see details that are otherwise not so obvious or invisible to the human eye. I first came across decorrelation stretch in a Matlab webinar and was curious to find out how it works.

The decorrelation stretch is a process that is used to enhance (stretch) the color differences found in a color image. The method used to do this includes the removal of the inter-channel correlation found in the input pixels; hence, the term "decorrelation stretch". The purpose of this document is to explain: 1) the conditions that normally appear in multispectral data 2) how a decorrelation stretch addresses those needs, ASTER Decorrelation Stretch Product. Version 2.8, March 2005. This is version 2.8 of the Decorrelation Stretch product. It is a visualization tool to enhance the color variations among objects within a scene. The effect of the process is to obtain an output image whose pixels are well distributed among all possible colors, while preserving the relative sense of the hue, saturation, and intensity of the input image.

Decorrelation Stretch, like principal component analysis, can be based on the covariance matrix or the correlation matrix, the resultant value of the decorrelation stretch is also a function of the nature of the image to which it is applied. 2016-04-27 Decorrelation stretch is used to enhance color differences in images with high interchannel correlation. Therefore it allows us to see details that are otherwise not so obvious or invisible to the human eye. I first came across decorrelation stretch in a Matlab webinar and was curious to find out how it works. The decorrelation stretch analysis produces a 3x3 numeric matrix as an end result that specifies the color transformation to be performed. In DStretch this result can be stored and reused on other images, skipping the decorrelation stretch analysis.

You apply decorrelation stretching with the decorrstretch function.

Another way to enhance the truecolor composite is to use a decorrelation stretch, which enhances color separation across highly correlated channels. Use decorrstretch to perform the decorrelation stretch. Specify the optional name-value pair 'Tol',0.1 to perform a linear contrast stretch after the decorrelation stretch.

Note You can apply a linear contrast stretch as a separate operation after performing a decorrelation stretch, using stretchlim and imadjust. This alternative, however, often gives inferior results for uint8 and uint16 images, because the pixel values must be clamped to [0 255] (or [0 65535]). As such, the effectiveness of the decorrelation stretch analysis in producing enhanced displays depends fortuitously on the particular contrasts which result.

The number of color bands, NBANDS, in the image is usually three.

To spatially subset your data, click Spatial A decorrelation stretch ( dcs) is a method to maximize the difference between different bands of data. By using eigen vectors and a covariance matrix, the data is "rotated" in to a new space where the values are then maximized and returned to the original space.
